Instructions for Bondo Original Filler: Step 1: Begin by cleaning all surfaces with soap and water, followed by a low VOC compliant cleaner. Ensure surfaces are completely dry before proceeding. Step 2: Next, sand the damaged area using 80 grit sandpaper until all paint, primer, and rust are removed, exposing bare metal. Extend sanding 1-2 inches beyond the damaged area. Clean the surface again with a low VOC compliant cleaner. Step 3: Prior to use, stir the filler well and knead the hardener tube. Squeeze out a 3” strip of hardener for every 3-inch diameter puddle of filler. Mix the filler and hardener thoroughly on a clean, non-porous surface. The working time once mixed is 3-4 minutes. Avoid adding hardener directly into the filler container. Step 4: Apply a thin layer of the mixed filler over the repair area with firm pressure for maximum adhesion. Additional layers can be applied if necessary. Allow the filler to cure for 20 minutes. Step 5: Roughly shape the filler with 80 grit sandpaper, then finish sanding with 180 grit and finer. Featheredge the repair. Wait 45 minutes before applying 2-3 coats of primer to cover the repair area. Step 6: Use Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty to fill in any small imperfections, followed by 2-3 coats of primer. Follow the paint manufacturer’s recommendations for priming and final finishing. For best results, apply at temperatures of 45°F (7°C) or higher. Do not return mixed filler to the can, and clean tools with acetone or lacquer thinner.
